Salary to Hourly Calculator

What does your salary actually pay per hour? Convert any annual figure into hourly, weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, and monthly equivalents — using your real hours per week and weeks worked, because a '40-hour' salary worked at 50 hours is a very different wage.

How this calculator works

All conversions divide the annual salary by the relevant period count (hours × weeks for hourly; 26 for biweekly; 24 for semi-monthly), computed in exact cents. Gross pay only — taxes and benefits vary by person and live in the Take-Home Pay Calculator.

Formula

Hourly = Salary ÷ (Hours per week × Weeks per year)
Hours per week
Hours actually worked, not contracted
Weeks per year
52 for a salaried role, since paid leave is included

The honest denominator is hours actually worked. A 50-hour week on a 40-hour salary is a 20% lower true hourly rate — which is also why a contractor's rate must exceed a salaried equivalent.

What this assumes

  • Standard full-time hours as entered. Unpaid overtime lowers the true hourly figure and is invisible on a payslip.
  • Paid leave is treated as worked time, which is what makes a salaried hourly rate higher than a contractor's equivalent.
  • Benefits are excluded from the hourly figure even though they are part of compensation.

What changes this number

Hours actually worked
The honest denominator. A 50-hour week on a 40-hour salary is a 20% lower hourly rate.
Paid time off
More leave raises the effective hourly rate for the same salary.
Benefits
Not in the hourly number, and a substantial part of what an employer actually pays for you.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert salary to hourly?

Divide annual salary by hours per week × weeks per year. At the standard 2,080 hours (40 × 52), each $10,000 of salary is about $4.81/hour — so $75,000 works out to roughly $36.06.

Why do biweekly and semi-monthly paychecks differ?

Biweekly = every two weeks = 26 checks a year; semi-monthly = twice a month = 24 slightly larger checks. Same annual pay, different rhythm — and two months a year, biweekly earners get a third check, a favorite budgeting windfall.

Is this before or after taxes?

Before — these are gross conversions. Your actual take-home runs roughly 70–80% of gross after federal tax, FICA, and state tax. Our Take-Home Pay Calculator does that math with the real 2026 brackets.

What's my real hourly rate with overtime I don't get paid for?

Set your true weekly hours. A $75,000 'exempt' salary at 50 real hours is $28.85/hour — not $36.06. It's a clarifying number for negotiating, comparing offers, or valuing your time against outsourcing a task.

What is $75,000 a year as an hourly rate?

$36.06 an hour on a standard 2,080-hour year — about $1,442.31 a week, $2,884.62 per biweekly paycheck, or $6,250 a month gross. If you routinely work 50-hour weeks, the honest hourly figure is closer to $28.85.
